The former West Covina resident has approved the sale of at least $250,000 fake sports and entertainment memorabilia, including forged photos and a signature of the star “Catch up with the Kardashians.”
Anthony Tremaine, 58, pleaded guilty to counting wire fraud as part of a nearly 10-year scheme that occurred between 2010 and 2019, federal prosecutors in the Central District of California announced this week.
According to federal prosecutors, Tremaine, who currently lives in Rosalito, Mexico, sells forged signatures, primarily Los Angeles athletes. He had hired others to make the forgery, and his accomplices had sent images of celebrities’ signatures to be used as an example, prosecutors said.
However, he sold music and political signings, and sold fake “catch up with the Kardashians” photos that he had built signatures from some of the show’s stars.
He sold the photos to a secret FBI agent and was arrested in 2019, prosecutors said.
In addition to the forged signs, Tremaine often included certificates of reliability for his memorabilia, but those were also forged, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said Tremayne sold fake memorabilia to clients worth at least $250,000 and $550,000.
He faced up to 20 years in federal prison when he was sentenced on August 11th.
