They are now recovering after 19 cats were found living in filthy conditions in Monrovia’s stolen U-Haul trucks last week, and some already have adoption available.
Animal rescue groups said they ingested the animal as soon as it was rescued, but the cats were mostly healthy. Many of them were said to receive the medical care they needed while they were rested.
Of these, three are available for adoption: Ultra, Ulysses and Uncle. Their age and gender were not readily available.
“Many of these sweet cats are ready to start something fresh and find an eternal home,” Pasadena Humanitarian said, adding that anyone interested in adopting a cat can visit the centre from 10am to 5pm daily.
The adult cat was found last Friday by Monrovia police officers answering calls about the stolen vehicle. After towing the truck, officers found a cat inside surrounded by poop, maggots and debris, officials said.
Animal control and veterinary staff at Pasadena Humen were called to assess the animals and transport them to shelter.
