Hollywood pays tribute to actor Val Kilmer, who unexpectedly passed away Tuesday evening. He was 65 years old.
Famous film director Francis Ford Coppola, who directed Kilmer in the 2011 horror film “Twixt,” praised him in an Instagram post.
“Val Kilmer was the most talented actor when he was in high school, and his talent grew significantly throughout his life,” Coppola wrote. “He was a great person to work with and it was a joy to know. I always remember him.”

“Happy Gilmore” fame actor Christopher McDonald praised Kilmer with X, saying that “a little bit of us is dead.”
“An icon that touched our lives in some way through his acting performance. He would be greatly overlooked.
“Val Kilmer felt like an actor who always understood the challenges, no matter what the material was.”
Jennifer Tilly shared the story of Kilmer’s arrival at an audition for the role of Jim Morrison in the 1991 film The Doors.

The official X-account for the “Top Gun” film honored the famous actor who played t during Tom “Iceman” Kazanski.

Actor Josh Brolin posted a photo of him smiling with Kilmer on Instagram.
“Ya, Pal, I miss you,” he wrote in the caption. “You were smart, challenging, brave, uber creative firecrackers. There aren’t many left in them. I’d love to see you in heaven when I finally get there. Until then, amazing memories, wonderful thoughts.”
Actor and director Ron Howard wrote to X that he was “very lucky to be able to work with Val over the years.”
“As Mad Martigan in the off-beat swordman in “Willow,” his stunning Jim Morrison at Oliver Stone’s “Door,” and a cold cameo in “Misson.” I am listing these titles because I am amazed at his amazing range as an actor.

Michael Mann, who directed Kilmer in the 1995 film The Heat, shared a photo of Kilmer on Instagram with Hartfeldt’s tribute.
“I was always amazed at the range while working with Val on the “Heat.” It is a wonderful variation within the powerful current of Val’s possession and expression character,” writes Mann. “After fighting illness for years and maintaining his spirit, this is extremely sad news.”
Kilmer passed away Tuesday of pneumonia. His death took place over a decade after he was diagnosed with throat cancer, from which he later recovered.
The LA Native was survived by his son Jack and daughter Mercedes.
