Check out Gizmo Fly! Second Big Bea Aiglet flew the nest

Check out Gizmo Fly!

Big Be Aiglett ran away. That means he jumped out of the nest on Saturday in 13 weeks. Gizmo is the second Eaglet to jump out of the family’s nest this year, shocking live webcam fans watching the big bear family of the Eagles, including Mama Jackie, Dad Shadow and brother Sunny.

“This is a very sensitive period of Jackie and Shadow and their escape, so their habitat remains closed by federal orders. For their safety, please do not enter or leave the habitat,” according to a post in Big Bear Valley.

The U.S. Forest Service and the California Fish and Wildlife Service are monitoring the area to protect the Eagles and their habitat. Sunny ran away in 13 weeks last week.

A friend of Big Bear Valley, a nonprofit that runs the Jeffrey Pine tree 145 feet above it, asked them not to disclose information about nest locations using the tree name to overlook Big Bear Lake, and not to share or solicit information about habitat locations.

The development of two young eagles has been closely followed by wildlife enthusiasts, especially after Jackie and Shadow laid three eggs last year.

Eagles fans watched in anticipation last month when Sunny first “hovered” over the nest. Eaglet then flew out of the nest last week.

Jackie and Shadow chase the Eagles, protect them, and help them find food for weeks and months, said Sandy Stairs, executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley, a nonprofit that runs the 24-hour nest cam. The Eagles do not reach sexual maturity until they are four or five years old.

The first year of life is dangerous for me. According to the American Eagle Foundation, a boy bald eagle has a less than 50% chance of survival due to the experience. If they survive, they can live in the wild for 15-30 years.

Eagles usually flap wings at 10-14 weeks of age.

Gizmo is Jackie and Shadow’s fifth eagle who escaped. Four people fled after the cameras were installed, according to Stairs. She said she was a par on the course. The webcam was installed in 2015 and recorded its first nesting season in 2017.
