Elijah Allman, son of pop icon Schael and songwriter Greg Allman, landed at the hospital this weekend after responding to reports that law enforcement had “erratically performed” in a home in the Mojave Desert.
On Saturday, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Landers’ unincorporated community where Allman, 48, was “assessed by emergency medical personnel.” Deputies said they “have drugs inside the house,” and the musician’s son was taken to hospital.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday it did not respond immediately to Times’ requests for comments and additional information. The statement did not say whether drug use led to Allman’s hospitalization, but TMZ defeated the news, but reported that he had an overdose on Saturday morning. Sources said the outlet was “invited with the best possible care” and “we’re fortunate to have survived.”
Cher’s representatives did not immediately respond to a Times request for comment and an investigation into Allman’s status.
Allman’s estranged wife, Marienguera King, expressed her support for her husband, spoke about her “unwavering commitment to drinking and her loyalty to the people he loves.” She admitted that her spouse has “favoured personal challenges in the past.”
“Like many, he continues to confront his inner struggle, but it’s important to recognize that he will do so from a place of strength, not defeat,” she added. “In spite of the assumptions that often colour the way he portrays his journey, the reality is that Elijah is deeply focused and deeply committed to living with sincerity and purpose.”
Allman has been open about his fight against drinking in the past, and in a 2014 interview he told Entertainment Tonight that his drug addiction began before he became a teenager. “That’s exactly what you did, and that’s exactly what everyone did,” he told Rob Marciano at the time.
“I [was] “It’s just when you’re trying to get away from everything in my past and when you look at such drugs, you know heroin and opium,” he said in 2014. He also recalled “some close call and moments when I really feel the edge of mortality.”
Details of his alleged drug use also surfaced in December 2023 when his mother submitted a bid to parents to take over his finances. The Grammy-winning “believing” singer at the time claimed that her son “had practically no control over his financial resources due to serious mental health and substance abuse issues.” Cher ended the parent’s bid within a year and rejected the petition in September 2024.
King filed a petition in April to divorce Allman in Los Angeles, citing “incompatible differences.” The couple, who married in December 2013, previously headed for divorce when Allman filed a petition in 2021. In January 2024, he submitted to dismiss the case without prejudice. Amidst the tensions in their ongoing relationship, the king emphasized in a weekend statement:
“My support is steady and comes from a place of deep respect for the people he is and the people he continues to show,” King said.
