R&B singer Chico DeBarges, whose music career peaked in the 1980s and 1990s, was arrested in Burbank for drug possession after being confirmed exclusively at NBC Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The Burbank Police Department has confirmed that the 59-year-old Jonathan Arthur Dodge was arrested early in the morning of July 4 after seeing him ride his bike without the necessary lighting equipment in violation of a California vehicle code.
As officers investigated, they discovered drug equipment and alleged drugs he possessed.
Records showed that there was also a prominent warrant for his arrest on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine.
After Debarge was booked with a drug-related claim and an unpaid warrant, Debarge was released with citation.
He is scheduled to appear in court on August 1, 2025.
A member of Motown Musical Act Debarge, Debarge released solo albums in the 1980s and 1990s. He was openly debating his struggle with addiction through his music as his sixth album, Addiction, addressed its impact, including his sentence on drug charges.
