Two dirt bike riders successfully evaded authorities after performing a stunt while weaving through traffic on a Los Angeles County freeway Thursday night, authorities said Friday.
The incident began around 3:45 p.m. when officers received several calls reporting motorcycles and dirt bikes traveling westbound on Highway 60 near Rosemead Boulevard in the South El Monte area.

Less than 10 minutes later, a CHP officer spotted the motorcycle and initiated a traffic stop, but a pursuit began when the two riders failed to yield, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Riders narrowly missed other drivers as they weaved dangerously through highway traffic. One of the suspects reportedly tried to hit the officer on his bicycle.
A group of nearly 20 other riders, many not wearing helmets, joined the suspect during the chase. Sometimes they even waved at the Sky5 camera overhead.
The group stopped at a gas station to refuel during the chase and were seen performing stunts and doing wheelies on the road as police pursued them.
CHP units ended part of the pursuit when both riders began driving into oncoming traffic while traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway.
The CHP airship continued to monitor the motorcycle as it traveled several more highways at various speeds, but at one point “the airship was unable to continue pursuit,” the CHP announced Friday.
