California Highway Patrol officials said in a statement that he shot and killed a man in San Jacinto on Monday, when he allegedly threw a rock at a moving vehicle.
At about 4:48pm on Monday, CHP officials responded to a “report of a male subject throwing a rock towards an approaching vehicle” near Gilman Springs Road, east of State Route 79. The statement said.
The suspect then threw a rock at the officer. The officers tried to conquer him using “an option of verbal orders and non-evolutionary forces,” the CHP said. According to the CHP, the suspect continued to move towards the officers and he shot him.
According to CHP spokesman Jonathan Torres, the officers had the option to use a taser or bean bag before filming, but what was used in this situation was unknown. No weapons were found at the scene, he said.
According to the CHP, officers provided medical assistance to the suspects until paramedics could take over. Cal Fire later declared the man who died at the scene.
Officers were not injured and the shooting is under investigation by details of Riverside County military investigation, the statement said.
