The campus community was cancelled Thursday at Campbell Hall School in Studio City to deal with the death of a 15-year-old student pinned between two vehicles in the school’s parking lot.
According to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey, the boy was struck at about 3:10pm Wednesday in an Anglican car park in the 4500 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. The teenager was taken to the hospital in serious condition, and his father accompanied him. The father is believed to have been in the parking lot to welcome his son when the accident occurred.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the teenager died in a hospital.
Police said the boy was pinned while trying to walk between the Libian SUV and another vehicle.
“The vehicle the students walked during that time moved forward,” Lapd Lt. Col. Matthew Bielski told reporters Wednesday afternoon, adding that the reason why the SUV moved forward and attacked the students remains unknown.
Beerki said the “unfortunate incident” was just considered an accident and no quotations were issued.
Another teenager, who is believed to be unrelated to the boy who is not believed to be unrelated to the boy who was deceased, later reported unspecified minor injuries, Humphrey said. He was evaluated on the scene but was not taken to the hospital.
Four other people (only two minors and three adults have been identified) were also tested for unspecified, non-life-threatening injuries.
Video from the scene showed what appeared to be three vehicles collided in a parking lot, with a canopy erected in the space between the two vehicles that the teen was hit.
The mayor’s crisis response team responded to the schools to provide support and recovery support to witnesses and others. Team members also dealt with hospitals where the teenagers died.
Campbell Hall administrators sent a letter to their parents informing them that schools would be closed on Thursday. However, grief counselors are now available to students and families at the school gym from 10am to noon.
