The Department of Homeland Security says it recovered $59 million in the FEMA fund allocated to hotel housing immigrants in New York City the day after those involved in the payments were fired.
“The NOEM secretary has curtailed the full payment that FEMA deep state activists unilaterally gave to NYC immigrant hotels,” a DHS spokesman told Fox News Digital.
“There’s no one penny that goes against the interest and safety of the American people,” they said.

The announcement comes after Government Efficiency (DOGE) said it had discovered $59 million payments for a luxury hotel for migrants in the recent crisis at the tropical border. Elon Musk said payments were sent last week.
DHS announced Tuesday that it had fired four employees and unilaterally fired payments “to avoid leadership.” The shooting included FEMA CFO, two analysts and one grant expert.
Using FEMA to make immigration-related payments has been a controversial topic in recent months. Funding is through the Shelter and Services Program (SSP). It is being allocated in Congress, and FEMA requires the use of funds shifted from Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The Biden administration last year claimed that the funds were allocated to CBP and managed by FEMA over allegations that disaster funds were being circumvented.
A spokesperson for the New York City Hall confirmed Tuesday to Fox News that the city received “last week” “last week” assigned by the Biden administration for housing and support for illegal immigrants.

Of the $59.3 million, $19 million was direct hotel expenses, and the balance funded other services, such as food and security. According to NY City Hall, the funds were not part of the disaster relief grant.

A spokesperson said they would not pay luxury hotel fees and the city applied for funds in April, with FEMA allocated the funds last year.

On Wednesday, New York Secretary Brad Lander responded to the cancellation of funds, saying that NYC “is not lying on it.”
“I urge the mayor to immediately pursue legal action so that tens of millions of dollars stolen by Trump and Doge are justly returned, he said, according to the New York Post.

Mayor Eric Adams later said in X that his office “learned about the federal government repelling more than $80 million FEMA grants applied and awarded under the final administration, but was not paid until last week.” I stated.
“While doing an internal investigation into how this happened, our office has already been working with the White House on getting these funds back, and we have requested an emergency meeting with FEMA. , we tried to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
