The shelter has returned to its 11th year.
NBCuniversal Local has been holding a nationwide pet recruitment and donation campaign for the 11th consecutive year. Clear the Shelters ‘Adoption Initiative will run from August 1st to 31st, but long-term donation efforts are underway until September 15th.
At the annual event, NBC and Telemundo stations across the country are working with local shelters and rescues to promote pet recruitment and raise funds for animal welfare.
The shelter celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, marking nearly 170,000 adoptions. The campaign also raised more than $500,000 for participating shelters and rescues. The 2024 edition included more than 1,600 shelters and rescues in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam.
Since its launch in 2015, Clear The Shelters has promoted the adoption of nearly 1.2 million pets and has raised more than $5 million in donations.
“We are pleased to announce that we are committed to providing a range of services to our customers,” said Meredith McGinn, executive vice president of Diginets & Original Production, NBCUniversal Local.
Hill’s Pet Nutrition serves as a national sponsor and partner for Clear The Shelters for its eighth straight campaign. Hill’s will provide support to clear shelter recruitment and funding efforts, and the company will donate meals and adoption kits to select participating shelters.
The other two return campaign partners are excellent charities and Werescue. Greater Good Charity, a global nonprofit organization and long-standing Shelters Partner, leads its fundraising initiative. Donations can be made directly to individual shelters from August 1st to 31st, and from now on ClearTheLtersFund.org will be able to clear the shelter fund from September 15th.
Virtual pet recruitment will be available again through Werescue. This allows users to search for available pets in their area based on breed, size, etc. Future pet employers can also ask questions directly to the shelter via Werescue.
This year’s campaign welcomes Black Dog as a partner for the first time. The apparel and restaurant company clears shelter brand products and a portion of the proceeds will be sent to Clear the Shelter Fund. Black Dog also allows customers to host adoption events at retail stores and donate to their customers to the Sleclers Fund.
“We are proud and honored for the shelters that the shelter has attended, affiliate stations, and the nutrition of pets at our longtime Partner Hill, and the support that shelter receives from the dedicated employees essential to its success,” McGinn said.
