Passengers on a Delta flight from Minneapolis to San Francisco International Airport on Saturday reported that the co-pilot was handcuffed by law enforcement minutes after the commercial flight arrived.
A Delta spokesman has postponed the issue to law enforcement.
A spokesman for the Homeland Security Investigation told the NBC Bay Area “HSI was supporting the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office with an arrest warrant.”
A co-pilot was arrested at SFO on Saturday night after landing a Delta flight from Minneapolis.
The NBC Bay Area has contacted the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office and is waiting for a reply. A summary report of the Sheriff’s Office case shows that he responded to an arrest warrant at SFO on Saturday evening.
A passenger named Sarah, who wanted her to be identified by her name due to concerns for her safety, told the NBC Bay area that she was on that delta flight and sitting in a first-class aisle seat.
She said Delta Flight 2809 landed at 9:35pm and pulled to the gate. Sarah recalled that the flight crew was a Minneapolis-based crew via speakers, thanking the passengers who flew the Delta.
In an email to the NBC Bay Area, she said a group of people wearing badges, guns and various agency outfits were up normally as they were getting ready to leave the plane, saying, “Let them go through the aisles and head towards the cockpit, move aside and make rooms.”
She reported that those people came from behind her and were moving towards the front of the plane. She said at least seven people in the group, some of whom were wearing the logo that said “HSI.”
“These seven people stormed the cockpit, cuffed the co-pilot, arrested him, walked down the aisle and led him out of the plane through the cabin door between the first and the coach,” Sarah wrote in an email.
“The rest of the pilots and flight crew also looked surprised and shocked, saying they didn’t know what was going on,” Sarah wrote, adding that she was “shocking and unsettling.”
