The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 11 people on a charter catamaran, which pours water about seven miles south of Dana Point Harbor, authorities said Sunday.
A monitor from the Coast Guard’s Los Angeles/Long Beach sector received a distress call from the operator of the 50-foot catamaran Manutea on Saturday around 6:20pm.
According to the USCG, the Dana Point Harbor Patrol and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department were monitoring Channel 16 and responded to an assist immediately.
“Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach has taken over the command of the search and rescue mission, issued an emergency marine information broadcast and launched a response boat from Los Angeles Station, diverting Coast Guard cutter David Duren,” according to a Coast Guard statement.
“The crew of Cutter’s small boat arrived on the scene along with a partner agency vessel, controlling the flooding and safely transferred all 11 passengers to another charter vessel run by the same company.”
A towing boat arrived at the scene and returned Manute to Dana Point Port.
