Orange County investigators are seeking help from the public as they are searching for a lead on Thursday after discovering new information related to the cold case murders from 1983.
After her body was found in the dark vert on the old Trabco road in the current Lake Forest District in April 1983, the murder victim, identified only as “Jane Doo” for decades, was Maritza Grimmett. was identified positively as Mariza Green Grimmett. Last March.
Investigators are now also identifying two people interested in the case, including Grimmett’s ex-husband Howard Grimmett and his current wife, Isabel “Terry” Cruz Grimmett. Authorities hope that this information provided to the public will help resolve the murder of Maritza Grimmett.
Maritza Grimmett, a native of Panama, married Howard Grimmett of the US Marine Corps in the summer of 1978 and gave birth to a daughter, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday. In late 1978, the family moved to the United States, where they lived in Columbus, Ohio and then in Millington, Tennessee, but in July 1979 they began divorce proceedings.

Howard Grimitt later married Isabel “Terry” Cruz, then moved to California. Maritza Grimmett later told her sister that she was going to California, but her family never heard of it from her again.
“Investigators are actively investigating Maritza’s murder and are interested in the details that will help establish how Maritza arrived in California,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities also said they were interested in talking to former military service members who may have met her at the former Elro Marines air base between late 1979 and April 1983.
