Community lamentes the death of an unidentified child discovered at a garbage dump in Panorama City

Community members gathered on Saturday evening to mourn the death of an unidentified child.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that KTLA had received a call at the station around 7am on Saturday morning and reported the deceased boy who was found in an abandoned parking lot in the 8200 block of Van Nuis Boulevard.

Although details are limited, LAPD estimated that the boy was between 3 and 5 years old. No further identification factors were provided immediately, but detectives tried to speak to nearby business owners and residents to find out when the boy was brought to the location.

Those passing the aggressive crime scene have expressed concern with KTLA’s Rachel Menithov, including Panorama City resident Daniel Garcia. “They found 3-4 years old in the trash can,” Garcia said. “What I’m trying to understand, they’re locking those gates, so who’s going to get in there?”

LAPD detective Meghan Aguilar spoke with KTLA at the investigation site on Saturday.

“They are trying to put together their work to really understand when this happened.

Aguilar also said the abused child unit was taking the lead and is looking for one or more suspects.

“I tell you, this may be natural death. This may be due to abuse,” Aguilar said. “We don’t know at this point. They won’t touch the body until the coroner arrives, and it will be the coroner’s responsibility to determine the cause of death.”

A pathological investigation is underway, but the public gathered that night for an unidentified boy. Some people have brought flowers to pay respect to their children, despite their personal knowledge.

“That’s definitely because they’re 3-4 years old and are so innocent,” said resident Corey Watkins. “They don’t necessarily know what’s going on, they’re looking for adults for protection.”

Another resident, Christian Sanchez, said his family owns Nobhill Banquet and the Conference Centre, a few yards from the crime scene. He told KTLA that the child was abandoned in the same place where he was disposing of the trash.

“I’m a father,” Sanchez said. “I can’t even imagine the pain my 4-year-old, small baby experienced. Can you imagine it?”

LAPD detectives said they withhold a lot of information that will help them interview witnesses and final interrogation of the suspect. There were no immediate words about where their parents were.
