Kendrick Lamar, a native of Compton, has 22 Grammys in his name, becoming the first rapper in the headlines of the biggest stages of the NFL.
He captured the national spotlight, with one double message in artist Drake and ongoing rap battles. Another big message was poetic and political.
Kendrick screamed into the city of Compton before pulling out DJ Mustard, who went to Dorsey High from the Baldwin Hills area, showing a world like his hit “Not Like Us.”
The pre-match hype focused on whether Kendrick would actually play a hit in a few months’ fight with Drake last year.
He came out omitting some of the explicit lyrics,

The performance at the halftime show surprised fans when Tennis Great, Olympic medalist, and Compton native Serena Williams made a dance cameo.
Williams was seen doing clip-walk or C-walk and dancing, a style that originated in Los Angeles’ gang culture in the 1980s.
