Conservatives on social media celebrated a victory Tuesday following news that Meta has promised to end its controversial fact-checking practice and move toward a system more focused on free speech.

Republican Sen. Rand Paul tweeted on Tuesday, following the news first reported by FOX News Digital, “Meta finally admits to censoring speech…What a great birthday present to wake up to and what a great gift for free speech. It’s a big win,” he wrote on X. In an effort to “restore freedom of expression” across Facebook, Instagram and Meta platforms, the company ended its fact-checking program and lifted speech restrictions, acknowledging that current content moderation practices “go too far.”

“Shocking – due to bias and abuse by third-party fact checkers, Meta has stated “we will adopt a system similar to what Posted by fellow Independent Women’s Forum guest Lindsey Fyfield on X. Police Officer Joel Kaplan spoke about the changes in an exclusive interview Tuesday morning on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends.”

“Nature is healing,” Fifield said.

Abigail Jackson, communications director for Republican Sen. Josh Hawley, wrote in a post on X: “If Trump hadn’t won, there’s absolutely no chance this would have happened.”

“Here is the full video of Mark Zuckerberg announcing an end to censorship and misinformation policies,” Breaking Point co-host Sagar Enjeti posted on X. Elections have consequences.’ I’ve seen it before. ”

Journalist Jordan Schachtel wrote on X: “Zac is working hard to clean house.” “Regardless of the motives, this is a very real effort and good news for internet discourse. Of course, it probably wouldn’t be possible to do it without Trump.” ”

Meta’s third-party fact-checking program was introduced after the 2016 election and has been used primarily to “moderate content” and control misinformation on the platform due to “political pressure,” executives said. said, but admitted that the system had gone “too far.” ”

The process has since drawn the ire of conservatives, who point to several examples where content has been silenced, including the bombshell report Zuckerberg admitted about Hunter Biden’s laptop. It has accused the platform of politically-driven censorship, pointing to several instances of silencing. He should have done so, but later claimed the move was a mistake.

Kaplan said Meta currently uses an automated system that makes “too many mistakes” and removes content that “doesn’t even violate our standards.” He also said that Meta will continue to moderate some content, including posts related to terrorism, illegal drugs, and child sexual exploitation.

Zuckerberg also noted in a video message Tuesday that the moderation team will be relocated from California to Texas, suggesting there will be “less concerns about bias on the team.”

“We’re going back to basics and focused on reducing mistakes, simplifying policies, and restoring freedom of expression on our platform,” Zuckerberg said. “More specifically, we plan to remove fact checkers from the US and replace them with community notes similar to X.”
