Controlled fire tests conducted by the U.S. Alcohol Service, cigarettes and firearms, which began Tuesday night, may help investigators understand the root causes of the catastrophic Palisade fire.
The test is taking place in an isolated section of the Santa Monica Mountains, just north of Pallisard in the Pacific Ocean, where the fire was thought to have begun.
One investigator is that hotspots from a small fire that broke out on New Year’s Day could be the root cause of the Palisade fire. The flames were released in a few hours, but investigators have not ruled out the possibility of an underground hotspot igniting six days after the first fire.
Searching for suspected murders in Los Angeles makes me “very worried.”
Nearby residents have been confirmed by authorities, including LA Mayor Karen Bass, and are being monitored at all times for controlled burns being implemented.
“We hope people understand that they are safe. This is completely under control,” Bass says. “There is no specific information that the ATF will announce the results in a few months.”
One neighbor told KTLA that while the sense of security comforted him, the thought of another fire near his eternally changed community made him a bit unsettling.
A controlled fire is burning in an isolated section of the Santa Monica Mountains above the Pacific Palisades district of Los Angeles on April 29, 2025.
“It’s more comfortable to know what they have [fire crews] Larry Bain said. “They are [conducting the controlled burn] In an isolated area…[but] For communities who have experienced this trauma, it is better to have more information and know in advance. ”
The controlled burn inspection will close on Thursday night, according to the ATF.
