Country music star faces misdemeanor charges with fatal crash

Country music singer Connor Smith is charged with misdemeanor after a 77-year-old woman was hit and killed in Nashville’s Germantown area.

According to the Metronashville Police Department, 24-year-old Smith is charged with creating the right to bring about death, a Class A misdemeanor.

The MNPD Transportation Department issued a quote Thursday night to Smith, officials said.

Investigators say Dorothy “Dot” Dobbins was crossing the street on a marked crosswalk when he was attacked by a truck on June 8th.

Witnesses said Smith ran to help Dobbins until paramedics arrived. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died.

Officials said officers could not find evidence of Smith’s impairment or distracted driving.

Smith issued a statement.

Four weeks ago, I was involved in a tragic vehicle accident that lost my life. There was no day when I wasn’t sad, praying, mourning for Mr. Dobbins and her family. My mind is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to handle all the weights of it completely

I hope you keep lifting Dobbins’ family in prayer in their name and seeking God’s peace that surrounds them every day.

I have decided to leave the show for the past few weeks to respect everyone involved and give them space for grief. I always found it to be a relaxing place for me to make music and performance shows – but at this moment it was important for me to take the time.

I am grateful to serve God near the broken man, and I lean against him at every stage of the road. Through tragedy I have learned that God is more faithful than I ever knew.

Smith’s lawyers also issued a statement confirming that “Misdemeanor National Citations” had been issued to Smith.

“Connor is extremely grateful to MNPD for his time and effort to carefully investigate this tragic accident, and he is always working together,” said Smith’s lawyer, Warwick Robinson IV. “His thoughts remain in Dobbins’ family and continue to commit to compassionately honoring her memory by supporting efforts to improve pedestrian safety and prevent future tragedy.”

According to MNPD, Smith appears to be reserved for the quote on August 7th.
