Police announced Monday evening that two suspects have been arrested in San Bernardino County after stealing mail and merchandise valued at more than $1,000.
The Upland Police Department wrote in the X-Post that officers received a report last week of two men breaking into mailboxes and driving a Mercedes with no license plates.
The department said officers were able to identify the suspicious vehicle and “the shift challenge began to see who could spot it first.”
Police said it “did not take long” for officers to spot the Mercedes at a gas station at Foothill Boulevard and Benson Avenue.
“It was not difficult to spot the two going to the trash can several times,” the police officer added.
Officers later stopped the vehicle and said they found mail, drugs, burglary tools and paraphernalia stolen from Upland.
Police also found more stolen mail when officers returned to the gas station and searched trash cans.
In addition, Upland Police said officers found a large quantity of merchandise at the retail store as well as receipts showing some of the credit card numbers used.
Police said, “Inside the man’s wallet was a newly stolen credit card with a matching number.” “It turned out the card had just been stolen and had been used to ‘purchase’ items valued at over $1,000.”
