Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo responded after a prominent former priest supported him to run for mayor of New York City against incumbent First Theme Eric Adams.
Carl McCall, the 89-year-old former state secretary, released an open letter on Saturday in support of Cuomo. Cuomo votes as Adams’ top challenger in the June primary, but has not officially declared his candidacy in the race.
In response to the letter, Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 amid scandals related to the death of a nursing home and allegations of sexual harassment during Covid-19, has revealed the history that he and his family share with McCall. I’ve admitted.
“Carl and I have a special bond that begins before me. We met Carl in our early 20s along with our late father, Mario Cuomo, who was in our early 20s. We went to New York more I fought to be fair and make it more of a place for everyone who lives here.”

“In these divisive and troublesome times, his voice is more necessary than ever, because he is moral clarity, one of experiences, and more than anything, guided by what is right for people. That’s it,” Cuomo wrote on Saturday.
“Today, in these uncertain times and after over 40 years of friendship and advice, I appreciate his faith and his advice, trust and confidence,” Cuomo said. “His emotions are humble and deeply meaningful.”
In his letter, McCall did not cite Adams by name, but indirectly accused the way the Justice Department asked the court on Friday to dismiss a corruption charge against Adams filed during the Biden administration. It looked like it would do. “Donald Trump wants us to fail as a community, so New York City leadership has rarely, if not as important as it is today,” writes McCall. “Not only does the Mayor of New York have the ability and ability to manage the real challenges of cities, but the Mayor must also have the ability to protect our cities and demonstrate strong offset against President Trump. People in New York are people whose loyalty to the city is compromised – we deserve to the mayor of New York to go to New York.”

McCall, a black elder politician who once ran in the controversial primary against Cuomo in 2002, turned on New York City’s second black mayor, Adams. McCall has approved Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign.
“I have never publicly urged candidates to run for the office, but I have never felt that it was necessary to use my voice,” McCall wrote on Saturday. “For these reasons, I urge Gov. Andrew Cuomo to run for mayor of New York City, and I will provide full support.”
“I’ve known Andrew for over 40 years, and you might be surprised at how quickly and very quickly he has supported Andrew,” the letter continued. “But despite it being surrounded by press from time to time, we were never political enemies. Twenty years ago, we shared at the time and now we are right and wrong. The same core values of the things were competing to try to make New York better. Location.
“More than anyone else, Andrew is the leader we need and the leader we deserve,” writes McCall.
Despite not yet declaring a mayor’s bid, Cuomo released a campaign-style video on Valentine’s Day. There, he told the elderly, “I missed you,” and said, “I don’t hate the strongest four-letter words, it’s love.

Albany politicians questioned Adams’ independence from Trump after the DOJ asked him to remove the corruption charges and some prosecutors resigned amid a motion for a Quidpro contract.

In response, Adams said on Friday in X, “I want to be clear with the New Yorker: I never offered on my behalf, but I ended up dealing with my authority as mayor in my case. There was nothing I could do.
