Cuomo supporters urge Hamptons residents to switch voter registration to NYC

Supporters of Andrew Cuomo are reportedly urging New Yorkers at their second home in the Hamptons to switch voters’ registration to the Big Apple in November to vote with Democratic socialist mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani.

The plan is to target medium Democrats in wealthy enclaves who have “deep ties to New York” and “deep ties to what’s going on.”

Cohen reportedly has been spoken to dozens of people – some of which are “very well-known” – they have “definitely” switched voter registrations to one of five districts from Long Island’s East End.

“I’ve been trying to put this message out of the primary,” Cohen told the post. “You never win an election, but you did the right thing, but by doing 100 things right, you do a thousand right things. This could be thousands of votes, but the election won and lost under thousands.”

If Mamdani wins the NYC mayoral bid, Cuomo will “move to Florida.”

In the opposite direction, the New York City Democrat, who has a second home to the east in 2024, switched voter registration to the Hamptons, then-tenured Rep. Nick Larota, RN.Y. Larota ultimately beat former CNN anchor John Abron, a Democrat challenger, nearly 11 percent points, winning a second term in New York’s First Congressional District.

This time, Cohen argued that it is easy to change voter registrations as long as the interested Hamptonian has a “legitimate and authentic” second home in New York City. He admitted that he had heard “first skepticism” about the tax implications. He emphasized that the state Election Commission is opposed to vote in two locations only.

Andrew Cuomo talks about the rematch with Mamdani, saying socialist policies will cause NYC’s “death”

“There’s absolutely no tax impact. That’s part of the message,” Cohen said. He described the strategy as part of a “long-term play” focused on bringing New Yorkers in New York and New York City to “participate in the political process.”

Republican donors and Hamptons metals giant Andy Sabin opposed the movement.

“You open a can of worms for audits and everything else. You’ll be hooked on doing it,” he told the Post.

Election attorney Jerry Goldfeder said using a “new legitimate registration form” would simply send the Hamptonians a change of address to the Election Commission.

“I’m about to switch,” Mitchell Aids, an 87-year-old resident of East Hampton and New York City, told the Post, deeming Mamdani “anti-Semi.”

“He’s a disaster. I want to vote in this election. I think it’s great to vote against him,” added Agoos, a supporter of Curtis Swawa, who has been voting for decades in Suffolk County.
