Mayor Bus said that after several nights of violence, it will take effect Tuesday in parts of downtown Los Angeles and in parts of downtown Los Angeles.
The curfew is effective from 8pm to 6am and can last for several days. It includes 5 highways to 110 highways, about a mile in downtown Los Angeles, and 10 highways to points that merge with the 110 and 5 highways.
The curfew does not apply to residents or people working in the area.
“If you don’t live or work in downtown LA, leave,” Mayor Karen Bass said.
The order comes after a weekend protest that has become violent in downtown Los Angeles. On Monday, a night of looting and vandalism followed most of the daytime protests.
Bass said the curfew was under consideration for several days, but was deemed necessary after 23 businesses were looted or destroyed on Monday night.
More than 100 arrests were reported in downtown LA on Monday, according to LAPD. At least 200 arrests have been made by the LAPD and CHP since Friday, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the situation.
The demonstration continued Tuesday near a federal building in downtown Los Angeles. Some protesters walked to the 101 highway and temporarily stopped traffic before the officers’ lines pointed them off the highway.
