Police are still looking for a driver who allegedly plunged into a group of cyclists last month, handing out immigrant red cards to pedestrians in Boyle Heights last month and escorted them out of the scene.
Around 12 people attended the “Know Your Rights Ride” event on February 25th, hosted by 33-year-old Boyle Heights resident Daniel Flores Rescenties.
Resendiz and his friends planned to bike from Mariachi Plaza to Atlantic Boulevard, down Cesar Chavez Avenue, then return Whittier Boulevard to Mariachi Plaza. The group stopped about five times and handed out red cards to street vendors. The red card, also known as the “Know Your Rights” card, contains information about a person’s rights if they encounter a federal immigration agent.
The incident occurred at Mile 3, he said.
The unregistered vehicle was encountered four bikes in the 600 block of South Lorena Street around 7:45pm, a LAPD spokesman told Boyle Heights Beat. Surveillance video shows the car slowing down and knocking on the biker.
“The block wasn’t lit, but we’re all on the lights, in the right lane and are legally allowed to ride,” Lesundys said. “I was the only person trying to stop the car and I threw my bike underneath and she was running it.
Three women were hit by a car and one man, Irvin Flores, was sent to hospital with a laceration in the head, Lesundis said. One of the victims, Nancy Lopez, told Fox11 that her impact had broken one of the driver’s rear mirrors, causing a dent in the car.
The car is believed to be a 2016 Kia sedan with plate number 8GAN606, police said.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department told the Times Sunday that an update to the incident is not available. Anyone with information about the vehicle or driver can call LAPD at (877) 527-3247.
