Today, LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman will be providing an update on the Menendez Brothers Murder Case.
This comes after Gov. Newsom recently asked the state parole board to assess the risks that could inflict on his siblings.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman said he opposes the brother’s retrial but is still weighing his recommendations on responsiveness and questioning some of the new evidence in the case.
Eric and Lyle’s family weren’t excited to hear it.
“The district attorney admits he has an obligation to prosecute cases under the law, but is he applying the laws that exist today with an informed understanding of the modern trauma that exists today, or is he relying on an outdated, harmful framework that has been rejected?” said Anamaria Baralt, Jose Menendez ‘nie.
Although we still don’t know what Hochman says late this morning, during which time, at the state level, Menendez Brothers petitioned the governor’s office to notify them of their sentences.
Gov. Newsom says he has directed the parole hearing committee to do what he calls a risk assessment investigation to see if Eric and Lyle pose a risk if released publicly safe.
“My office has dozens of consistent reviews of these generosity in dozens and dozens, but this process offers more transparency, which I think is important in this case, as well as more due diligence before deciding on generosity,” Newsmom said.
The governor’s office says it could take several months for the assessment to be completed.
