Dana Carvey took a break from playing President Joe Biden on “Saturday Night Live” this week and instead played one of his most famous characters, the Church Lady.
“Hello, welcome to church chat, I’m a church woman,” Carvey began. “You know, I’m happy to be back to finish out 2024, the most diabolical year in history.”
“The little girls look up to the Hawk Tui girl instead of their mother Mary,” said Carvey, a church woman, referring to the much talked about Hawk Tui girl. “You should walk to the church instead of Hawk Tui.”
Church Lady was later joined by former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who was temporarily nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be attorney general.
Gaetz, played by “SNL” star Sarah Sherman, was labeled a “devil” by Our Lady of the Church and later told a guest, “I don’t know what to do.” I asked about “sexual peccadilloes.” before he resigned from Congress last month. The report focused on allegations that Gates engaged in illegal drug use and sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old girl, obstructed a House investigation, and other allegations.
The House of Commons voted last week not to make the report public for now.
“Matt, you better repent. There are only 17 days until Christmas,” Our Lady told him.
“You had me when you were 17,” Sherman replied to Gates.
After saying goodbye to Gates, Our Lady of the Church welcomed Hunter Biden, played by David Spade.
Spade was a cast member of SNL alongside Carvey in the 1990s and co-hosted the Saturday Night Live-focused podcast Fly on the Wall with him.
“Okay, yes, my father forgave me, but I thought it was good for a father to forgive his son. Is that OK?” Hunter Biden said in spades.
Hunter Biden was pardoned last week by his father, President Joe Biden.
“Well, Jesus certainly didn’t turn the water into a crack,” the church woman later told Hunter Biden.
Church Lady’s third guest was Major League Baseball slugger Juan Soto, played by cast member Marcelo Hernandez. Soto, who spent his final season with the New York Yankees, is a free agent and is expected to sign with a new team soon.
This week’s “SNL” was hosted by “Gladiator II” star Paul Mescal, along with musical guest Shabouzi.
In his opening monologue, Mescal said he was “not known for comedy” and shared some emotional scenes from the film.
“I think it’s obvious that I’m not afraid of emotional scenes. Or nude scenes. Or nude emotional scenes,” he joked.
