The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has applied for federal aid by extending the deadline for Southern California residents affected by the January wildfires.
The new deadline has been moved to Monday, March 31, 2025.
“We appreciate your acceptance of FEMA and the Trump administration’s request to expand separate support programs as the Los Angeles community continues to rebuild and recover,” Gavin Newsom
It said in a statement announcing the extension on Friday.
Those affected by the fire are required to file an insurance claim to damage their home, personal property, or vehicle before applying for FEMA assistance.
The deadline for applying for disaster unemployment insurance has also been extended.
“I urge Eton and Palisade-influenced Angelenos to apply for federal assistance to help them get their feet back,” Newsom said.
FEMA can help wildfire victims with rent, temporary homes, home repairs, and other disaster-related needs that are not covered by insurance. You do not need to pay this help.
