Fireworks explosions and fires that damaged four homes in Pacoima also claim life.
The body of the 30-year-old man was recovered from the scene of the fire near 12933 Corcoran St., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire began just after 9pm on Thursday, authorities confirmed several people and pets were injured in flames and explosion fireworks.
They include 33 burnt women who were hospitalized in critical condition, and a 68-year-old who inhaled smoke but refused to visit the hospital.
David Ortiz of LAFD told KTLA’s Carlos Herrera that three others also complained of inhaling smoke but refused to go to the hospital.
“We still encourage those people to seek medical care with their primary care physicians,” he said.
Additionally, the dog was rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital, and controls of the LA animal were called for other injured pets.
The incident came hours after a similar tragedy in the Simi Valley.
“It’s happening throughout the Southern California region,” Ortiz said. “We are increasingly seeing these powerful illegal fireworks being sold out from private property, and they are being treated by people who are not trained to handle fireworks.
Councillor Monica Rodriguez noted that the fireworks “harmed another neighborhood.”
“This incident is a reminder that selfish and thoughtless use of fireworks is not harmless, it is fatal and can cause irreparable harm,” she said in a statement.
