Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., and Democratic mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani told Fox News Digital that it is the future of the Democrats, a young political activist voter at the Washington, D.C. Summit. At the summit, attendees expressed enthusiasm for the democratic socialist stars, but pointed to one issue they wanted a stronger and clearer attitude.
The “Fight for Our Future” event on Friday, July 25th featured more than 200 youth organizers, leaders and progressive politicians, including California Rep. Locanna and former DNC vice-chairman David Hogg. As the party’s progressive wings turn to new leadership, one attendee urged Ocasio-Cortez to go out loud about Gaza.
“I really like AOC,” Ohio attendee Reihena Djema told Fox News Digital. “Unfortunately, I want to look at her position and speak out more about Palestine. But other than that, I really think she should be a Democratic leader because she is a Democratic socialist.”
Ocasio-Cortez created a political wave when he welcomed Mamdani to the country’s capital for a closed door skill-sharing event with Congressional Democrats on how to implement a successful digital campaign. The self-proclaimed democratic socialists may have been missing from Friday’s event, but their policies permeated the conversations at the summit.

“I think more politicians should adopt socialism,” Zima said. “I think it’s really important to remove yourself from this neoliberal idea that it’s okay to be class-conscious, capitalism, and exploiting workers. I think the Democrats are the workers’ party and we should look more towards socialism.”

Mamdani has been criticized by conservatives and moderates for his past anti-capitalist comments, including years of suggestions to seize the means of production.
And Ocasio-Cortez’s own progressive foundation, including the American democratic socialists (DSA), criticized her in a vote on the amendment proposed by R-GA Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
“If you say I voted for military funds, you’re lying,” Ocasio-Cortez fought back with an X. She previously said, “I’ve been continuing to focus on cutting off the flow of US ammunition used to perpetuate Gaza genocide.”

However, her campaign office was later destroyed with red paint, and read, “AOC is funding the genocide of Gaza.”
“I think she should condemn what’s going on in Gaza, especially Israel, for genocide, and highlight it,” Djema added that Ocasio-Cortez is “great.”
“Looking at people like Zohran Mamdani and AOC, just getting a lot more foothold in the policy field, it’s very powerful.”
Chowdry said there was a “stigma” about socialism, especially from conservatives, so she was optimistic and empowered, like healthcare for everyone, “people are really really defending very common sense policies.”

“I think candidates like Zohran Mamdani and AOC are really inspired. I think people like Muslims like me like Mamdani and Zainab will have a lot of momentum in 2028.
Morodina said Texans were “dismissed” about Mamdani, saying, “I think it’s proof that people are ready for change. I think he brings the fresh perspective people are looking for.”
Deon Tran, a young voter from California, admitted, “Yes, sometimes it seems like a lot of these policies are there. They’ve never tried it before.”

But Tran told Fox News Digital that younger voters “need to fail and at least have politicians and leaders who are willing to give it a try rather than sticking to institutional traditions.”
Californians touted Ocasio-Cortez’s support for the failed Green New Deal and emphasis on the cost of living for the Mamdani.

And Asi, another Californian who represented her state chapter in Tomorrow’s voter, said she was looking for a leader who could reach “fresh thinkers” and everyday Americans.
“To some extent, that’s probably why a lot of these young voters really resonate with people like AOC and Zohran Mamdani,” she added.
