The Democratic Attorney General of 19 states has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration over the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access to confidential personal data belonging to Americans in the Treasury.
The lawsuit alleges that an agency run by Elon Musk has illegally accessed the Treasury’s central payment system at the request of the Trump administration.
On Thursday, the Treasury agreed to restrict access to mask team payment systems, and the judge heard the arguments in an earlier lawsuit filed by the employee union and a group of retirees.
The lawsuit filed Monday alleges that Musk’s team violated the law by being given “full access” to the Treasury payment system.

The payment system includes information on social security for Americans, Medicare and veteran benefits, tax refund information, and more.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent said concerns were invalid on Wednesday.
“Doge doesn’t fail,” he said. “They are moving cheese for many people in the capital here. When I hear this cry, some current situation interests are not happy.
“The Treasury hasn’t mentioned the payment system. It processes 1.3 billion payments a year. We are investigating. Regarding payments that are suspended, it’s happening upstream at the department level.”

Doge has been launched to eradicate wasted government spending and is already approaching closing the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The lawsuit was filed in New York by the Attorney General Trump critic, the voice of New York Attorney General Leticia James.
Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maine, Maine, Maine, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, It includes Wisconsin Attorney General.
“President Trump has no authority to distribute American personal information to those he chooses. He cannot cut federal payments approved by Congress,” James said in a statement. “Masks and Doges do not have the authority to access American personal information and some of our country’s most sensitive data.”

Finance officials on Wednesday refused to violate privacy laws and said only two members of the Doge team were given “read-only” access to information in the payment system.
