Sen. Elissa Slotkin thinks it’s “strange” that the Trump administration hasn’t released documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, but at one point it was the last thing in her mind.

Democrats are looking for openings to sharpen their message to Republicans, and have attacked the administration and their colleagues across the aisle to release documents. But Republicans question why their counterparts didn’t have the same energy when former President Joe Biden took office.

In a recent interview with PBS’s “Shooting Line,” Slotkin, who appeared as a leading Democrat voice, said he had no idea what the documents were, but it was strange that President Donald Trump and his administration didn’t release them.

“Hour by the Hour”: Senate GOP wants to end Epstein’s drama, but Democrats haven’t let it go

“The president and his allies generated so much hope for these files at this point. It’s odd that they haven’t released them, right? The president prevented this,” she said.

But almost five years ago, ahead of Biden’s final victory and a democratic triple ecta in Washington, Epstein’s issue was not a priority for her first term in the House at the time.

In a 2020 video obtained by Fox News Digital, Slotkin said it’s not “before the heart” to jump into former President Bill Clinton’s connection with Epstein.

The sentiment answered a question about why Clinton was in a pack of documents related to Epstein, barely mentioned. She argued that there were more pressing issues at the time, such as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the economic fallout that has been spurred by it.

“Facing these issues, I honestly don’t spend a lot of time examining the relationship between Bill Clinton and the others.

“I don’t have any particular knowledge of these issues, but my job is to focus on people’s pocketbooks and what affects their children. If I’m not making positive progress on that, I’m not at work,” she continued. “So I can’t answer your question because it’s not where I live, it’s not where I concentrate.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Slotkin for comment on this report, but received no response.

Congressional Democrats and some Republicans have increased transparency from the Trump administration over the release of a series of documents known as the so-called Epstein Files in the saga that engulfed Capitol Hill for much of July.

Congressional anger comes from a Justice Department memo released earlier this month, declaring the Epstein case had been closed and has not lost steam since.

Epstein’s plot paralyzed the house, and house speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) sent lawmakers home early as the bipartisan swell grew to discover the documents.

The Senate is not confusing. Still, Senate Democrats have increased their message to the administration, but many Senate Republicans will prefer to focus their attention elsewhere.
