Zohran Mamdani’s major night success shocked the political establishment this week, revealing generational disparities among New York Democrats.

Rep. Tom Suzzi, a New York Democrat, approved former government official Andrew Cuomo at a city hall race Tuesday night. The moderate Democrat said Wednesday that he had “previously had serious concerns about Congressman Mandani. [Tuesday]that’s one of the reasons why I supported his opponent. These concerns remain. ”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.), a fellow self-descriptive democratic socialist, threw her political weight behind Mamdani over his major victories, national Congressional Democratic leader, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and house leader HiQuem Jeffries, but did not overflow Mamdani after he declared victory.

“He has run an impressive campaign that connects with New Yorkers about affordability, fairness and opportunities,” Schumer said Wednesday. When pressed by a reporter about his disapproval, Schumer refused to elaborate on what Mamdani’s victory would mean for the Democratic future.

Jeffries congratulated Mamdani on a “decisive major victory” and confirmed his plans to speak with the presumed candidate the day after he declared victory. However, House Democrat leaders have refused to formally support Mamdani.

New York Democrats say mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani “too extreme to lead”

Mamdani, whose campaign has promoted supporters on ground and on social media, proposed what conservatives consider radical ideas, including government-run grocery stores, free bus services, tuition-free city universities, rent freezing and free childcare.

Schumer and Jeffreys didn’t immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s investigation into their lack of recruitment and whether New York Democrats are planning to gather behind the Mamdani in November.

A medium-sized New York Democrat, including Senator Kristen Gillibrand and a person in charge. Richie Torres, Adriano Espillat and Pat Ryan are also not yet supporters of Mamdani. These Congressional Democrats, like Suzzi, did not immediately respond to the Fox News digital survey on whether they were planning to support Mamdani.

Torres also approved Cuomo on the primary. And Espillat congratulated Mamdani on Wednesday, but did not fully support him.

Rep. Dan Goldman, who supported Sen. Zellner Millie in the Democratic primary, has yet to support Mamdani since his major victory and has not responded immediately to an investigation into whether he would.

Meanwhile, longtime New York Democrat Jerry Nadler explicitly supported Mamdani on Wednesday, comparing Tuesday’s victory to President Barack Obama’s political ups.

“Zoran is the person who will be my partner in Washington to face Donald Trump in Washington. I spoke to him today about my commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism. Working with all New Yorkers to combat all prejudice and hatred, Mamdani refuses to be particularly tempered by being asked to be illegal.

Like Suzzi, New York Democrat Lauren Gillen refused to support Mamdani by writing on social media on Wednesday.

“His entire campaign is built on the last thing New York needs – the unattainable promises and higher taxes. Beyond that, Mamdani called for police to be refunded, showing a deeply disturbing pattern of unacceptable anti-Semitic comments he hates when anti-Semitism is surged. He is New York’s absolute wrong choice.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani for comment.

Sources confirmed to Fox News Digital on Thursday that Cuomo had not been dropped from the race. The former governor will maintain the location he secured on the “fight & delivery” voting line earlier this year. However, sources said Cuomo is not yet committed to running an aggressive general election campaign from summer to fall.

And Mayor Eric Adams announced his reelection campaign on Thursday at Steps in New York City Hall. He decided to run as an independent amid low approval rates and on his subsequent drop-off federal corruption charge.

Former federal prosecutor Jim Walden is also independent, and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Swawa will once again become the Republican candidate in the mayoral election in November.
