Democratic lawmakers recall “there was no drama” in certifying Trump as winner: “We still have democracy”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Four years after protesters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, Democratic lawmakers emphasized a smooth transition of power after certifying President-elect Trump in 2024.

Lawmakers met in a joint session in Washington, D.C., on Monday to certify the electoral votes for Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance. Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the certification, following her own loss to Trump after losing the November presidential election.

Democratic lawmakers spoke to Fox News Digital as they left the ratification, recalling that it was a “drama-free” ceremony in contrast to President Biden’s certification four years ago.

“As long as we can maintain our democracy, we still have a democracy,” Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-R.I., told FOX News Digital as he left the House chamber.

Another Democrat, Rep. Jesús Garcia of Illinois, also commented on this year’s peaceful transition of power.

“It was completed smoothly,” Garcia said. “There’s no drama, there’s no fighting. There’s no false contestation of results.”

Jeffries insists there are “no election deniers” in the Democratic Party, despite his “illegal” comments during Trump’s 2016 victory

“This is a time-honored tradition,” said Rep. John Mannion (D.N.Y.). “This is part of our country’s history and this is what we have to do. This is also part of the job and I’m glad to be a part of it today.”

“These are good times for American democracy, and we are proud that the vice president presided over our democracy,” California Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna told Fox.

“We have done our duty,” said Democratic Representative Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania.

Harris also spoke to reporters after the certification.

“Today was obviously a very important day, and it was about what should be the norm and what should be accepted as a given by the American people. “One of the key pillars is that a peaceful transition of power is maintained,” Harris said. “Today, American democracy stood up.”
