A new report suggests that usage of X (formerly Twitter) by Congressional Democrats has declined significantly since Elon Musk took over the social media platform.
According to calculations by public relations firm Quorum, Republicans used X significantly more than Democrats in 2024. Of the top 20 most active accounts for members of Congress, only one belongs to Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Frost. – I’m number 15 from the left.
This is a marked change even from Quorum’s 2023 report, released just over a year after Musk acquired the site. The top 10 most active Congressional accounts were split almost evenly, with six Republicans and four Democrats. Now, they’re all Republicans.

The report notes that a 2023 survey showed a significant drop in Americans who identify as Democrats using the app.
“A study conducted early last year found that the use of X among the general public has declined since Elon Musk took over, and Democrats are driving the exodus,” the report said. are.
“Looking at the data, it’s clear that the decline in usage isn’t just coming from the general public. Civil servants, especially those on the left, are also changing their social media habits.”

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) is the only Democrat on the list of the top 20 most active Congressional X accounts.
For example, Rep. Dwight Evans, D-Pennsylvania, was the most active Democrat on X in 2023, but his posting frequency has plummeted by 66% this year, the report said.
Activity on the X accounts of California Representatives Robert Garcia and Ted Lieu (both Democrats) decreased by 35% and 26%, respectively.
The most frequently active X accounts in 2024 were those of Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
In 2024, among the X posts by members of Congress, Republican members accounted for 54.4% of the total, compared to 45.1% for Democratic members.
According to Quorum’s previous report, in 2023, Congressional Democrats accounted for 50.8% of Congressional activity on X, while Republicans accounted for 48.8%.
