Democrats nominated a lawmaker to the House Government Efficiency Department Oversight Subcommittee and warned they would “fight back” against cuts to critical federal programs.
The new agency, a key promise of President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, is tasked with reducing government waste and increasing transparency in government spending. This was created by an executive order on Monday.

Stansbury vowed to “work across the aisle and fight policies that are harmful to the American people, using every means possible.”
He said in an X video that Democrats are “100% in favor” of DOGE if it is implemented to improve government efficiency and improve the functioning of federal agencies. But they are prepared to “fight back” if it becomes “political theater to do the bidding of President Trump and his billionaire allies.”
“I know what good government looks like and I’m not afraid to fight for it,” Stansberry said in a separate statement, according to Politico. “At the same time, we are ready to fight to protect the critical programs, services, and employees that keep our communities safe and our economy running.”

Garcia also said he would use his position on the oversight subcommittee to “fight back” against House Republicans’ plans to “attack federal employees.” He said Republicans plan to cut key federal programs, including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and give tax breaks to billionaires and the wealthiest corporations.
He took aim at the subcommittee chairwoman, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
“Marjorie Taylor Greene and her extremist allies have helped advance a radical agenda on this subcommittee, including eliminating the Department of Education and programs for seniors and veterans,” Garcia said in a statement. “There is,” he said.
“From day one, we are ready to fight back, denounce attempts to tear down our social safety net, and ensure working families and the middle class are taken care of.”

The announcement comes amid news that former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is leaving the newly created department.
According to Fox News sources, Ramaswamy, who was tapped by President Trump to lead DOGE in November along with Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, will begin campaigning for the Republican Party in the Ohio gubernatorial race early next week. That’s the outlook.
To run for elected office, his structure requires him to remain outside of DOGE. Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is term limited and cannot seek re-election in 2026.
