WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senate Democrats who spoke to Fox News Digital said they support reducing wasteful spending from the federal government rather than Elon Musk.
“Of course there are some wasteful spending, but we don’t use x of meat to cut everything,” said Sen. Dn.Y. Sen. Chuck Schumer, who said Fox News Digital would cut the value. I said on Wednesday after asking if there was.
“We need to look into each program. We need to go through Congress and move to see what is useless and get rid of it,” he said.
Democrats were critical of Elon Musk’s efforts at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to reduce “wasteful” federal spending as the newly formed cost-cutting sector withdrew hundreds of millions of dollars by the previous administration .
Democrats told Capitol Hill’s Fox News Digital that they generally support cuts in federal spending, but not how Doge is sweeping.

“Doges are handing over the country to billionaires. They’re looking to make money for them,” said D-Conn Sen. Chris Murphy. “They are not interested in government efficiency.”
Murphy told Fox that “there is a lot of money to be cut,” but “that’s not what Doge is doing.”
“We spent too much money on prescription drugs. Every year we fill the pockets of the pharmaceutical industry. We need to negotiate all the costs of prescription drugs. We have to spend a lot of money on excessive spending. It’s wasted,” Murphy said.

“There’s certainly waste and efficiency that we can improve,” said Sen. Andy Kim of New Jersey, but “The way that’s happening right now is not the right way to do it.”
“That means federal employees are being kicked out, and we realize that they are necessary for avian flu and nuclear control and so on,” Kim told Fox News Digital. “It’s causing too much confusion. But I would have been prepared to work in a bipartisan way. I’m not yet.”
I-Vt. Senator Bernie Sanders and D-Wis. Sen. Tammy Baldwin of the group told Fox that they think they should reduce wasteful spending, but did not elaborate on where it should be.
Doge has entered federal agencies over the past month, revealing billions of dollars in spending from the federal government that the Trump administration believes is wasting.

This method sparked opposition from critics such as Schumer, who claimed Doge had “tracked the Medicaid community health center.”
