Democrats visit El Salvador in hopes of returning Kilmer Abrego Garcia

WASHINGTON – A House Democrat group flew to El Salvador on Sunday to promote the return of Kilmer Abrego Garcia.

Congressmen Robert Garcia (D-Long Beach) and Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) led the effort. They were joined by Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) and Maxine Dexter (d-ore.).

President Trump refused to return Abrego Garcia to the United States – despite the order that the Supreme Court order “promotes” his return, he argues he has no authority to do so.

The Abrego Garcia case has been the focus of debate over immigration and restrictions on administrative authorities. Trump frames the Abrego Garcia case as an immigration issue, but critics say the real issue supports the constitution and rights of legitimate procedures.

“Trump is against the Supreme Court order to bring Kilmer home,” Garcia said just before leaving Washington on Sunday. “We are clearly there to demand his release and continue the pressure on the administration.”

Democrats wanted to organize a delegation of Congress to visit Abrego Garcia. Organized with official Capacity Grant lawmakers, travel offers more security and resources.

On Tuesday, Garcia and Frost wrote to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Kommer (R-KY.), seeking permission to fund an official visit to the Terrorism Confinement Centre, also known as Secott, a megaprison that can accommodate 40,000 people.

“The Congressional delegation will allow committee members to conduct welfare checks on Abrego Garcia and others held in Secott, including Andree Jose Hernandez. “In addition, following President Trump’s recent remarks, Congressional oversight has been justified and expressed his desire to send “in-house criminals” to the facility “including home-house criminals.” ”

Comer declined the request on Friday, writing that he would not approve one approval of taxpayer funds for such trips.

“It’s ridiculous that you both showed positive hostility for over two years towards the Biden border crisis and the consequences of millions of illegal aliens entering the country,” Comer wrote.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Greene (R-Tenn.) rejected a similar request from Rep. Delia C. Ramirez (D-Ill.).

However, House Republicans were allowed to make an official trip to El Salvador last week. Representatives Jason Smith (R-Mo.) and Riley Moore (Rw. Va.) shared photos of X in prison.

Garcia was called Kommer’s denial “shameful” given the approval of Republicans. He said his trip — which is personally funded by Garcia and other lawmakers — includes meetings with US embassy staff, local supporters calling for Abrego Garcia’s release, and his legal team.

Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) was the first US lawmaker to meet Abrego Garcia. Van Hollen returned from a three-day trip to El Salvador on Friday to promote his release, saying the case was far more multiple men.

“It’s about protecting the constitutional rights of everyone living in the United States,” Van Hollen said.

Van Hollen said Abrego Garcia told him that he had been moved from CECOT to the detention centre in better condition. His status since Van Hollen’s departure is unknown.

Garcia said his trip continues the basis that Van Hollen gave birth to.

Abrego Garcia, originally from El Salvador, lived legally in Maryland. The 2019 immigration judge’s order banned removal in El Salvador. However, he was removed on March 15th, after immigration and customs enforcement authorities found it to be “administrative error.” White House officials claim he is a member of MS-13, but he has not been charged with gang-related crimes.
