Sen. Jeff Markley accused Trump Manager’s Administration (OMB) director Vert of being responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children due to budget cuts he overseen under the Trump administration.
Vought was faced with a high-strength grille over a budget cut package called the rescue package from both Democrats and GOP senators on Wednesday.
Members of the Democratic Committee and some Republicans appeared extremely frustrated by the administration over the proposed cuts. At one point during the hearing, several protesters stood and began screaming, and the proceedings temporarily stopped. It was unclear what the protesters were opposed.
Vought argued that the administration’s cuts to USAID and PepFAR did not stop life-saving treatments, but Merkley argued that the claim was a “giant deception.”

According to Merkley, the Boston University School of Public Health claims that around 246,000 children have been killed due to various foreign aid programs reduced by Doge.
“We’re talking about 150,000 children due to the irresponsible closure of a fully approved programme. You were unconstitutional and closed in partnership with Elon Musk and Secretary of State,” Merck fired. “What do you think about taking responsibility for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children as these important programs were suddenly suspended?”
Vought said all administrations have the ability to “do program reviews when they take office,” and firmly rejected the claim that changes will be made based on “new spending priorities.”
Before he was finished, Markley collapsed, saying, “I think your reaction is both ignorant and cold.”

“You have chosen to close the middle program that has brought hundreds of thousands of children to die in the last few months. I have few Americans who have had that abominable, and so devastating effect,” cried Merckley.
D-Wash. Sen. Patty Murray of confronting Vought and accusing him of trying to illegally manipulate Congress and bring about its cuts.
“Please tell me specifically where you plan to undermine American interests, the Philippines, the Pacific Islands, Jordan, where you plan to undermine American interests,” she asked Vought’s response. “Of course not. It makes it very clear in all the priorities of the administration that all commitments regarding Jordan and Egypt are maintained.”
Before Vought was over, Murray cuts again, saying, “I don’t want to share which humanitarian crisis this administration is trying to escape. That’s what we’re going to vote for, and that’s the key information.”

But it wasn’t just Democrats who were appointed during the hearing.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski of R-Alaska also expressed his dissatisfaction with the Trump administration’s Doge Cuts, saying he is particularly struggling with reducing public broadcasting.
Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. also expressed objection to reducing foreign aid.
“Instead of creating efficiency, enemies like China created vacuums to meet responsible investments in soft power, prevent conflict, maintain American influence, and save countless lives at the same time,” McConnell said.
Vought said, “It is important that this institution and Americans write on a large scale, and that it is important that many foreign aid programs use benevolent sound titles to hide truly horrifying activities that are not in line with American interests.”

Vought said “the entire federal government must be responsible for each taxpayer dollar that comes to Washington.”
“The American people voted for change. President Trump is ready to keep his finances homes organized and put American taxpayers first,” he said.
