Mayor Christopher Scanlon of Buffalo, New York, lost his nomination for Senator Sean Ryan after a shortage in the city’s Democratic primary on Tuesday night.
Scanlon acknowledged the primary to Ryan, thanking his supporters and apologised for not “tonight doing that for you.”
“Getting the type of support the campaign had at this point was the humblest experience of my life,” Scanlon said.
Ryan, who is supported by the County Democrats, declared victory and pledged to unite the city.

“We know that we need to unite Buffalo not just as Democrats, but as Buffalooners,” Ryan said.

“Ryan was very pleased and surprised to see the margin of victory in the multicandy dating field,” he told Buffalo-Toronto public media.
The Associated Press called for the victory for Ryan, who had 46.5% of the vote. Scanlon was short of 35.3% of votes.

Scanlon called for maturity after resigning in October to replace Buffalo’s longest-serving mayor, Byron Brown, who heads off-track betting agency.
