Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and others have advocated the relocation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration headquarters from Washington, D.C. to Sunshine.
The governor, who last month expressed support for the idea, said in a comment last week that he thought moving headquarters to Florida would “save about $1 billion.”
Senator Ashley Moody, who DeSantis chose to replace Marco Rubio in the US Senate, is also pushing the idea forward. Rubio left the Senate to serve as Secretary of State in President Donald Trump’s Cabinet.

“The head office of @NASA must be moved to Florida’s Space Coast. This move will save taxpayers money, encourage cooperation with private space companies, and Florida’s talented labor in the aerospace industry. We will use our power to drive further innovation,” she said in a post Monday. x.
“This is a simple thing for @Doge,” Desantis declared in a tweet Tuesday when replying to Moody’s post. “The federal government is currently planning to build a new, expensive headquarters for NASA’s DC.
A November post on the NASA website stated, “Current NASA headquarters leases expired in August 2028, and agents have already evaluated multiple options, such as leases or purchases within the District of Columbia. “We’ll do that.”

A NASA spokesperson told Fox News Digital in a statement Tuesday:

R-FLA Rep. Anna Paulina Luna issued a letter to Trump last month advocating for the NASA headquarters to her state.

“Washington, DC has historically been home to NASA’s headquarters, but the rapidly evolving space landscape requires a more integrated and efficient approach to space policy. Supporting this transformation, space exploration and support. It is set up on its own to strengthen America’s leadership in the book,” she said in the letter.
