Despite the departure, Musk State Department reforms will remain under Trump

Elon Musk could no longer be Doge’s top dog, but his reforms at the State Department will remain permanently placed, a senior official told Fox News Digital on Thursday.

As Musk’s 130-day order as a “special government employee” ends, the billionaire entrepreneur announced that he had left Doge in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter X) on Wednesday night.

During Musk’s time as head of Doge, he helped pioneer massive reforms at the State Department. This included the cancellation of a variety of foreign aid programs for US Organization for International Development (USAID), staff reductions, and lack of oversight, efficiency and other reasons.

What will be next for Doge after Elon Musk’s departure? “Just starting”

Indications that mask Doge-related work will continue at the State Department have been strengthened by new restructuring efforts at the State Department, announced Thursday by Secretary Marco Rubio. The new reorganization plan is expected to cut or consolidate more than 300 of the State Department’s offices and departments, according to agency officials.

The agency currently has around 700 offices. This means that reorganization efforts will cut or participate in more than 40% of the office.

“We have too many gods — the office,” a senior State Department official told Fox News Digital. “We’re trying to shrink the office rather than create it.”

The State Department filed a notice with Congress on Thursday, and issued a notice revealing plans for a reorganization overhaul. This will be the biggest restructuring of the agency since the Cold War, a senior State Department official said.

White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt added Thursday that many Doge employees will remain part of the Trump administration despite Musk finishing his job.

“It’s true that Doge’s mission will continue,” Leavitt told reporters Thursday. “Many Doge employees are political employees now.”

Jeremy Lewin, one of Musk’s Doge Associates, has recently been in the top role at the State Department. In April he was placed in the state for another role. However, Lewin disputes that he worked directly for the mask doge.

Diana Stancy of Fox News Digital contributed to this report.
