Details surrounding a fatal hit-and-run clash in Torrance, described by staff as “devastating.”

The crash occurred on the Pacific Coast Highway and Ocean Avenue Saturday around 8:40pm, involving four vehicles and pedestrians, the Torrance Police Department said in a media release issued Sunday.

“The collision included multiple vehicles and pedestrians fell off the curb in the lane of the Pacific Coast Highway,” TPD said in a media release.

Emergency crew members rushed to the area, but the pedestrian was injured at the scene, police confirmed. They have not yet been identified by the LA County Medical Examination Office.

Filmed in the aftermath of the KTLA crash, the video shows what appears to be pedestrian property, including suitcases and some clothing, on the sidewalk in front of McDonald’s. Video from the civic app showed that traffic was redirected, blocking the presence of large police from the road.

As the authorities began investigating the cause, PCH traffic was “severely affected” as a result of the crash. Their investigation revealed that one of the drivers involved was affected and the driver was arrested.

Their identity has not been revealed.

“The arrest highlights the ongoing issues surrounding impaired driving and the danger it poses to all road users,” Torrance police said. “Our idea is with the victim’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

Anyone with more information about the crash will be asked to contact the Torrance Police Station by calling 310-618-5557 to refer to TPD Case #250013850.

Authorities said details surrounding the clash will be released at a later date.

KTLA photojournalist Nelson Castillo contributed to this report.
