Homeland Security’s Department of Christa Noem has cleared the exemption that allows for the construction of an additional 36 miles of border walls in Arizona and New Mexico.

The exemption curbs environmental regulations that make construction legally faster. “DHS has been working at a neck-breaking speed to secure borders,” DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital, removing illegal foreigners from our country.”

The news release says it covers several projects, including filling the gap in Yumasector and rolling out to the El Paso sector wall. Additionally, 24 miles will be part of the Tucson Sonoitta Project.

The projects already had funds allocated in the 2020-21 budget for customs and border security, the release from CBP added.

“Today’s news is welcome in Yuma, Arizona, where our community is still working on the outcome of the Biden Harris administration’s four-year open border policy,” said Jonathan Lein, Yuma County supervisor and chairman of the Border Patrol Alliance.

“We praise President Trump’s commitment to border security and look forward to the completion of the wall across the southern border. The border crisis is not over yet. Our federal government must continue to equip the Department of Homeland Security and the US Customs and Border Protection Agents with the tools, technologies and resources needed to provide adequate national security to keep America safe,” Line added.

Trump Administrators share their border plans for 2025 and beyond: “As much as we need”

Another exemption was granted in April to build more walls in California. With only a few exceptions, millions of people, including gaps, have largely halted the construction of boundary walls during the Biden administration. The gap between barriers is also known to be used in cartel activities.

“Our borders have been safer and less secure than ever. We have a Trump administration that we appreciate that,” Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen told Fox News Digital in a statement. “Finishing the wall is exactly what the Arizonans voted for, and Secretary Noam is pleased to be able to quickly carry out President Trump’s mission to protect citizens and strengthen national security. The sanity and the rule of law are recovering in our country.”

Critics of the construction of further walls cite environmental concerns primarily.

Border communities reveal what Trump administrators still need to achieve as the crisis settles: “overburden”

“Abandoning environmental, cultural conservation and excellent governance laws that protect clean air and clean water, protect valuable cultural resources, and protect vibrant ecosystems and biodiversity will only cause further harm to border communities and ecosystems.”

“As urgently as President Trump is spending hundreds of billions of dollars to help build even more wasted border walls through budget adjustment packages, Congress should revoke these exemptions and focus on improving the serious damages already caused by the wall,” Walkup added.
