President Donald Trump fired U.S. Federal Election Commission members and Chairman Ellen Weintraub and sent her a letter about “removal.”
Trump took office on January 20th, and has since taken on a massive transformation of government, laying off hundreds of top agency officials and civil servants, setting up more loyalty and bureaucracy. I tried to reduce it.
Weintraub, like many others, was in the crosshairs of Trump, but she didn’t appear to be standing.
“I received a letter from Potus today to remove me as the commissioner and chairman. [the FEC]”Weintraub wrote in a post on X on Thursday. “There is a legal way to replace FEC commissioners. I was lucky enough to serve Americans and stir up some good trouble along the way. That’s what It won’t change anytime soon.”

In addition to her post, Weintrobe posted a copy of a letter from the White House.
“Dear Commissioner Winetrobe,” the letter states. “This will remove you as a member of the Federal Election Commission and will soon be enforced. We would like to thank you for your services on the committee.”
The letter was signed by Trump on January 31, 2025.

Weintraub targeted President Trump in 2019, but said his “unfounded” claims about voter fraud are “damage to our democracy.”
She appeared on CNN to criticize the president, claiming that he was spreading information that had no evidence.

“I think it’s damaging our democracy,” Weintrobe told host John Berman.
Weintraub responded to Trump’s repeated claims against it, claiming there was no evidence of voter fraud that had been extended to 2016.
