It’s finally here: anniversaries, and the unofficial beginning of summer. Luckily we have a 3-day weekend and practically perfect weather forecast to kick off the season in style.

Beyond basic beach trips, we rounded up 15 summer ways to spend your holidays. Read the best Memorial Day events in LA

1. Catch the first Cinespia screening of the season

It’s not a summer in Los Angeles. It’s not Los Angeles summer until the first cemetery screening brings a huge buck for movie lovers to foldable chairs, picnic blankets, snack spreads and plenty of liquor at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The beginning of this year’s film lineup is actually a Saturday screening of Big Lebowski, a man-observed man. (The Sunday Clueless screening is already sold out.) Other series feature flicks this weekend, including La La Land, 9-5 and Top Gun: Maverick.

2. Sip pickled lemonade on the Ferris wheel
sat – mon

The LA County Fair concludes its 2025 run at Pomona, but there’s still one more weekend to enjoy the carnival rides and all the wild groceries you’d expect from the fair.

3. Shopping and strolling at South Bay Street Party
sat – mon

A long-standing anniversary weekend tradition, the complimentary Fiesta Hermosa is back at art festivals, shopping, carnivals, wine gardens and live music on the beach.

4. Excavate a groovy atmosphere in the Topanga era
sat – mon

Bohemian, picturesque Topanga Canyon holds its own country fair that feels like a derivative of Woodstock’s west coast. Allah and English defeated the weekend headlines full of live music and games that culminate in the DIY Memorial Day parade on Monday morning.

5. See Compton’s Hometown Hero at Sophie Stadium

Catch the third and final night of Kendrick Lamar and R&B superstar SZA at Inglewood as part of the Grammy-winning rapper’s “Grand National Tour,” and watch the rapper perform Super Bowl scene steeler “Not Like Us.”

6. Unleash your inner cowboys and cowgirls with Wild West Bash

Both the Rooftop Bar Dessert 5 Spots and the Shopping Centre Ovation Hollywood are throwing country-inspired celebrations this weekend, featuring live country songs, line dance lessons and cocktails.

7. Visit the museum that offers free admission to the military
sat – mon

If you are a veteran or active member of the military, some of the best museums in the city offer free admission anniversary weekends with gratitude for your services, including the Petersen Automotive Museum. Some institutions, such as the Latin American Museum of Art, the Neon Art Museum, and the LACMA, like the Gamble House, are taking it a step further, offering Workers’ Day free of charge to active duty veterans and their families thanks to the National Fund for the Blue Star Museum Program of Art. Additionally, activities or retired troops with IDs can enter the Natural History Museum and the Lovelaer Tar Pit & Museum at any time.

8. Make a splash at the best public pool in LA
sat – mon

If you’re not blessed with a private pool, then fortunately there are actually attractive public options in LA. One of our favorites is Annenberg Community Beach House, a former Hollywood beachfront estate that has been transformed into a public club. Its historic pool will open for recreational swimming from 10am to 6pm on Memorial Day weekend. After dip, stick to the game of ping pong and beach volleyball.

9. Or party poolside at the hottest bar
sat – mon

Summer also means that the bar boasting a pool is launching a pool party. These include sexy gatherings at West Hollywood Skybars and various programming in downtown Golden Hour.

10. Buy food with exclusive money in Santa Monica

Celebrating the 10th anniversary, the Beachside City Punny Mine Polly event adds fun board game spins to your typical tasting event. Sample products from 20 main street bars and restaurants, including Ashland Hill, Holy Grilled Nuts, Jameson pubs and Triple Beam Pizza. There is also a VIP beer garden that is the theme “Go to Prison” VIP beer garden.

11. Listen to live music on the mountain
solar

As we resume our monthly concert series this Sunday, we will be listening to the Mount Wilson Observatory, especially the city’s one mile live jazz, located within the dome of the 100-inch Hooker Telescope.

12. See West Hollywood Boundary Pushing Art for Free
Earth, sun

The annual Weho Pride Arts Festival will highlight the creativity of the LGBTQ+ community, filling in free art programming the weekend before the Weho Pride parade, from comedy shows to dramatic reading and interactive workshops in the village of Ed Gould Plaza’s Los Angeles LGBT Center.

13. Expel hunger with burgers

Anniversary is synonymous with cookouts, especially hamburgers. If you don’t want to mess with the grill yourself, one of these 30 best burgers in town should satisfy that craving, whether you prefer a thick, juicy, thin and broken pate.

14. But it leaves space for ice cream

The weather isn’t hot yet, but it’s never a bad time to cool down and indulge in the best frozen treats in town, from artisan scoops to soft serves to shaved ice. One of our picks, Handel’s homemade ice cream, has opened a new shop in Burbank, worth a visit (it has over 100 flavors, but the refreshing mint oreo is not wrong).

15. Spend Saturday doing good for the Earth
