We really want to believe it won’t be a problem with Los Angeles’ “no car” turn at the 2028 Olympics host. After all, the city will finish more metro expansions by then. But all you know is, air taxis may not be a bad backup just in case the traffic dwemer is proven correctly.
On Wednesday, Archer Aviation announced it was selected as the official air taxi provider for the LA28 Olympics and Paralympics and Team USA’s official air taxi provider.
So, what exactly does that mean? The San Jose-based company’s Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (EVTOL) vehicle will be called midnight and will transport fans, VIP and shuttle emergency services to Sophie Stadium and Bertie Port at LA Memorial Coliseum (all local airports outlined in the company’s first network announcement last year). Expect 10-20 minute rides between the major Olympic venues.

Of course, you probably haven’t actually seen Midnight Sky Borne yet. The four-person electric vehicle, which says Archer will produce less noise and emissions than traditional helicopters, was first announced at Service Target in 2026, with the vehicle still achieving FAA certification.
What is the price? In an interview with the LA Times, Archer Aviation CEO Adam Goldstein said the cost is similar to high-end ridesharing like Uber Lux (and is also welcomed through the app). The outlet also reported that demand is likely to exceed the company’s 50-vehicle fleet, so fingers crossed that surge pricing is not a matter of events.
Midnight may not be the only EVOTL craft to cruise the skies in time for the Olympics, which featured his vehicle on Gloves (part of its own network) last year (and recently reaffirmed plans to launch service as early as 2026.
