The 46-year-old anesthesiologist, charged with attempted second-degree murder of his wife, has appeared in his first courthouse since his arrest in Hawaii earlier this week.
According to multiple media reports, the incident on March 24th occurred on a hiking trail on Oahu around 10am.
The victim, 36-year-old Ariel Konig, told Honolulu police that her husband, Dr. Gerhard Konig, suddenly attacked her, pushed her off the hiking trail and tried to shake her head with the rocks several times.
The witness to the attack was reportedly called 911.
According to Hawaii News, medical workers who responded to the scene discovered the 36-year-old woman suffered from facial and head injuries and rushed her to the hospital in danger.

It is unclear whether she remains in the hospital or if she has been released.
Gerhard was found near Paris surveillance and was arrested after six hours of manhunt and short leg pursuit, Honolulu Police Station said in a news release.

The couple is said to live in Maui, where Gerhard worked for Maui Health as an intentional contractor, but he is suspended awaiting an investigation into the charges. Arielle has a background in nuclear engineering, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Several people who know Konigs, reportedly known as prominent in the community, told Hawaii News they were left uneasy to learn about the violent incident.
During the court appearance, the prosecutor submitted documents to the anesthesiologist with a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 31, CNN reported.
His bail was set at $5 million.
