The Department of Defense (DOD) is launching a voluntary programme to help civilian employees travel to the tropical borders to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) efforts.
The agency released a memo Monday allowing civilian employees to volunteer to travel and support border business operations.

“From the first day of this administration, protecting my hometown from bad actors and illegal substances has been the focus of the President and Secretary of Defense,” said Sean Parnell, a Pentagon spokesperson. “By enabling qualified DOD civilian employees, whether in our borders or our community, to support DHS, we accelerate the progress that our service members have already made in achieving national security goals.”
The voluntary program was made at the request of DHS, US officials told Fox News.

It was not clear how many DOD private employees were expected to volunteer, or what kind of work they would do. Fox News Digital is in contact with DOD and DHS.

“Non-refundable details will be approved if the expected benefits of the details are comparable to the training or development programme implemented at the cost of the DOD component.”

News of the voluntary program is as the Trump administration continues to crack down on illegal immigration for deportation and targeted crimes.
