The Congressional DOGE Caucus’ plan to reduce government waste is shifting focus after the group’s second-ever closed-door meeting on Wednesday.

Caucus leaders have divided lawmakers into eight working groups focused on different areas to reduce waste. These will focus on retirement benefits, social and family safety nets, emergency supplemental funding, energy permits, homeland security, defense and veterans, workforce, and government operations, according to documents viewed by Fox News Digital. That’s what it means.

Co-chairs Aaron Bean (R-Fla.) and Pete Sessions (R-Texas) call on lawmakers in the room to introduce at least one bill related to government efficiency in the 119th Congress. did.

They told Fox News Digital that this is part of a coordinated effort by their caucus seeking legal support for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), co-led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. He said that it was nothing more than

“We’re going to aim for the day we kill this bill, the day we go to the floor and talk to the American people,” Sessions told Fox News Digital.

Bean elaborated on the idea, calling it “DOGE Days.”

“Hopefully there will come a day when we’ll have 20, 30 bills, and all the DOGE members will come forward and say, boom, we’re working on it,” Bean said. “We’ll have great teamwork and great synergy and momentum.”

They asked participants to fill out a survey, a copy of which was obtained by Fox News Digital, specifying the work groups they would like to join.

During the closed session, lawmakers also took turns discussing their own ideas for reducing waste in government.

Rep. Jay Obanolte (R-Calif.) called for a constitutional amendment that would require Congress to balance the federal budget.

Additionally, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (RN.J.) proposed ending child tax credit eligibility for undocumented immigrants.

“Right now we’re not paying enough attention… where illegal aliens are getting child tax credits and child care tax credits. It’s ridiculous. You know, what I’m saying is that these It’s a low hanging fruit, it’s a low hanging fruit,”’ Van Drew told Fox News Digital when asked about the meeting’s comments.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), who is leading the DOGE effort in the Senate and attended Wednesday’s House meeting, urged senators to work with their Senate counterparts on the bicameral bill. urged.

Lawmakers are enthusiastic about the goals of Musk and Ramaswamy’s new committee. The group is an advisory committee commissioned by President-elect Trump to make recommendations on where the executive branch can reduce government waste.

The group has set up an email tip line and has already received more than 15,000 emails, Bean and Sessions said.

Bean said he was surprised but pleased with the enthusiasm.

Sessions added, “I’ve probably gotten 200 letters here, and they’re actually typed, and some of them say, ‘Thank you for doing this. I’d like to hear from you.’ ” And this is also a way of expressing gratitude to the American people who are participating in the game. ”
