Elon Musk said he was “disappointed” at the cost of President Donald Trump’s “one big beautiful bill” passed by Republicans in the House last week.
“Frankly, I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill. This not only reduces it, it also increases the budget deficit and undermines the work the Doge team is doing,” Musk said in an exclusive broadcast interview with “CBS Sunday Morning.”

Musk’s remarks contrast with Trump, who recently returned from government efficiency or Doge’s operations, but who supported laws that require Senate approval.
One big beautiful bill law passed from 215 to 214 in the house. All Democrats and two Republicans, Rep. Thomas Massey, R-KY. and Warren Davidson of R-Ohio voted against the bill. House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris, R-Md. voted “Current.”
The bill is a victory for Trump and House Republicans who have overcome policy disagreements to realize Trump’s major campaign promises, including extensions and tips on tax cuts in 2017, overtime, no social security taxes.

It aims to cut around $1.5 trillion in government spending. The US government is still liable for over $36 trillion in debt, and according to the Treasury, it spends more than $1.05 trillion than it was collected in fiscal year 2025.
The bill still faces hurdles.

The Senate is tasked with passing its own version. Republican leaders hope to send the bill to Trump’s desk by July 4th.
